We have focused a lot in the past years on the structural and industrial aspects, resulting in the Wing of Tomorrow concepts and ground prototypes.
It’s time now to take all this knowledge up to the next level by prototyping and flying.
eXtra performance WING, is an Airbus UpNext flying demonstrator, implementing disruptive wing technologies and focusing on wing performance.
Our objective is to demonstrate outstanding extra performance by flying a remote controlled business jet, with world class aircraft domain of flight and get the key knowledge from a remote controlled, heavily instrumented demonstrator.
The opportunity of a Remote Control, UAS Test Engineer Ground and Flight
has risen within the TESTING TEAM of the eXtra performance WING.
This job comes with a 1 year and a half year CDI-C contract tied to the demonstrator' deliverable - end of December 2026) and is based in Cazaux (Gironde - 33 FRANCE) where the ground and flight tests will take place in 2025 and 2026 with regular traveling to Toulouse UpNext offices.
Missions
As part of the project, the A/C platform is converted into an UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) having at the core a remotely piloted aircraft, controlled by a crew located on a ground control station.
You will work within the Testing Team and in close co-working activity with the flight crew.
As an extension of the crew, your mission will be to perform integration ground tests, operational tests procedures validation and integrated tests for the Remote Control system perimeter (comprising a ground control station and an air/ground communication system) .
Depending on your skills and crew decision you could be onboarded by the crew to support and assist flight tests.
This will be an incredible experience for you, you will develop testing skills (on ground and in flight) , to take part to developing disruptive technologies by acting during the most exciting part of the program, which is testing and operating of the aircraft!
The overall integration of the systems with the A/C will take place in S2 2025 and Q1 2026 on ground before the flight tests. Your responsibilities within this perimeter will be:
- Understand and coordinate the ground integration tests
- Synthesize the key test objectives and draft ground and flight tests procedures
- Manage the remote control datalink of the demonstrator (A/C with ground)
- Define and deliver the ground and flight test procedures on the perimeter requested by the HO Testing
- Lead the Remote control systems testing campaign for first flight clearance
- Deliver the integration test reports and analysis for the remote control systems
- Act as MAP Team member for the remote control and support transverse activities and troubleshooting on the A/C and in the Ground Control Station
- Support flight test campaign operational aspects for the remote control systems
The tasks may evolve during the course of the project, so being flexible is important.
Your Boarding Pass:
- At least 10 years experience in Ground and Flight Testing with serious track record on known Programmes
- Demonstrate solid knowledge of automation systems based on aerospace RF datalink communication
- Solid knowledge of aircraft architecture and aircraft systems (ATA 31, 34, 22, 27, 7x, 36, 21…)
- Track record in flight testing or flight test support
- Solid background (proficiency level >3) RF links, EMI/HIRF
- Act with autonomy in a dynamic environment, with a “hands on” mindset
- A good understanding of systems interfaces and management
- Able to take initiatives to propose simpler and efficient ways of working
- Have good skills in practical problem solving
- Adaptability, Availability, Accountability
- Enjoying working in an international, diverse and geographically located team
- Sharing the values of transparency, courage, humility, empathy
- English and French are mandatory
- Eager to step out of the comfort zone
- Willing to have fun
- Qualification CAT2 flight test engineer would be a real advantage
