CertainTeed Roofing R&D is seeking a driven and energetic Engineer to join the roofing team. This position is part of the polymer material research group, focusing on providing sustainable solutions to the polymer modified asphalt and polymer composite techniques for roofing applications.

As a Research Engineer VIE, you will be located at the Saint-Gobain Research Center in Northborough, MA. The role includes research of technologies, design and execution of experiments, analysis of results, and generate technical reports. Work will mainly focus on developing polymer modified asphalt shingle formulas using conventional and sustainable materials.

Your main tasks will consist of:
Evaluating raw material, including polymers and asphalt;
Designing and executing lab formulation;
Running test to evaluate formulas and raw materials;
Generating technical reports;
Presenting results in project meetings;
Assisting lab safety and equipment maintenance.

Your main role will consist of:

Comprendre le rôle des différents paramètres de soufflage de l'équipement actuel sur les performances du produit (thermique, mécanique)
Tester et développer des améliorations de cet équipement en lien avec l'état de l'art existant
Evaluer l'impact de ces modifications sur une gamme variée de produits de laine de verre

The CTC (Chinese Tech Center) , located in Shanghai, is part of Sekurit, a market leader in automotive glazing which is part of the Saint-Gobain Group. This Tech Center supports the production teams on new development or continuous improvement of existing solutions for the 4 Sekurit Plants in China (Shanghai, Meizhou, Qingdao, Wuhan) .

Following the nomination of a significant automotive project, Sekurit China will substantially enhance its industrial capabilities in polyurethane encapsulation, a process used to overmold certain types of glazing, particularly large roofs. The associated bonding systems require thorough validation. A similar initiative is also starting in Poland.

The position will focus on supporting the ramp-up of high-value canopies, aiming to improve technical performance and assist in the start-up of the new plant dedicated to these roofs. Additionally, experience will be shared with the Polish plant, where a VIE is also following the ramp-up.

The main role:

As a Development & Industrialization Engineer, you will have three main missions:

Mission 1: Support the Start-Up of a Key Project
Maintain close contact with Europe to incorporate lessons learned from Poland;
Follow up on production activities;
Mission 2: Develop New System Solutions for Roofs with Roller Shutters Directly on the Glass
Explore two technical possibilities: encapsulation and pre-assembly;
Benchmark the market and existing systems with glass fixation;
Ensure IP clearance (already in progress) ;
Propose solutions and testing methods, particularly for bonding systems;
Continuous Missions:
Serve as a link between European and Chinese teams;
Demonstrate autonomy in your work;
Support audits of component suppliers, commissioning, and connect results with the central team.
A plus for this role:

You will work on encapsulation, components, and bonding solutions, but you will also have the opportunity to understand and challenge how the glass is bent, the control steps of the process, and the impact of storage and transportation. Travel within China to visit component suppliers is possible.

This is a 12-month mission, extendable once.
The VIE will work in the technical center, where the working hours are generally from 8: 30 AM to 5 PM. The center is closed for one week during Chinese New Year and one week in August. Occasionally, you can work from home. You will focus on encapsulation, components, and bonding solutions.
