Airbus UpNext is looking for a 5G User Equipment engineer to support the definition and implementation of 5G Non-Terrestrial-Network capabilities based on space platforms.
Our objective is to explore many new technologies and to support the strategic ambitions of Airbus. As such, be prepared for a wild ride, digging into unconventional ways of working, and be ready for many pivots throughout, as we will explore the unknown.
As the 5G User Equipment engineer, you are responsible for the 5G User Equipment (UE) : its compliance to the needs of the 5G NTN communication system and all activities revolving around it.
This position is based in Toulouse ( between Labège and Saint Martin) , and you will collaborate with teams across Europe and an international partnership landscape.
This job comes with a 3 year CDI-C contract tied to the deliverable of this demonstrator - end of June 2028.

By being the 5G User Equipment engineer, you will:
- Define and Document UE Feature Requirements: Translate high-level network and service requirements into detailed, actionable technical specifications for 5G UE features, specifically considering NTN unique aspects
- Ensure all defined features align with relevant 3GPP standards (Release 17 onwards for NTN) and industry best practices
- Work on the UE integration into the complete User Terminals
- Participate to the 5G NTN system end to end design & definition
- Link with partners for the UE equipment specifications and 3GPP feature list definition
- Contribute to system validation on the 5G chain
- Support demo operations and compare measured performances w.r.t. expected performances

What you bring:
- Deep Understanding of 3GPP Standards (NR & NTN)
Knowledge of 3gpp defined 5G system architecture
- UE-side architecture (protocol layers PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS)
- Integration with the 5G Core Network Initial Access and mobility: Random Access Procedure (RACH) , HandoverMeasurement and reporting, Channel State Information (CSI) , feedback reportingUE conformance & Testing
- Ideally understanding of conformance testing 3gpp TS 38.508, 38.521 series and TS 38.133
- Ability to interpret and applyc technical specifications to UE requirements
- Knowledge of UE Hardware & Software architecture and complete protocol stack
- Knowledge in NTN-specific features introduced in Release 17 and beyond (e.g., SIB19, timing advance for NTN, Doppler compensation, mobility in NTN)
- Experience in 5G related to NGSO systems, and satellite telecommunication systems would be a plus
- Willingness to work with external companies for the complete 5G chain definition and implementation (including the development of the UE)
