Context
As part of its ambition to develop short‑term market capabilities, BP Romania is expanding its BESS and Intraday power trading activities and is recruiting an Algo Trader / Quantitative Analyst (VIE) .
This role is central to designing and deploying the algorithms, models, and quantitative methodologies that support the desk’s trading and asset‑optimization activities.
The position also involves close collaboration with BP Romania leadership, local stakeholders, and international platforms to align tools and strategies.
This VIE assignment offers a unique opportunity to explore the energy markets within a dynamic city and a growing platform. Expected starting date: 1 June 2026.
In the power sector, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming essential as the growth of renewable generation increases the need for flexibility. Their operation requires continuous optimization across several markets (day‑ahead, intraday, ancillary services, intraday auctions) while managing state‑of‑charge constraints and adapting to frequent updates of demand, price, and renewable forecasts.

Your Mission
  • Develop optimization algorithms for BESS and conduct constraint‑based modelling to plan and schedule charging and discharging cycles, considering technical and operational requirements.
  • Contribute to short‑term forecasting models for prices, volatility, and imbalance signals used as inputs for algorithmic decision‑making.
  • Design and backtest trading algorithms derived from desk‑defined strategies, ensuring methodological consistency and reliable performance evaluation.
  • Support the validation of algorithms and tools with internal risk committees, preparing documentation, analyses, and model‑behaviour explanations.
  • Ensure coordination across tools and platforms to maintain a consistent real‑time operational environment, including robust data flows for market inputs and BESS telemetry.
  • Participate in strategy development, monitoring of live strategies, return‑of‑experience processes, and adaptation of group quantitative tools to local needs
